Britney Ohrlund

DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC

My name is Britney Ohrlund and I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Midwest Wellness Institute. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD and then worked as a nurse for 10 years at Sanford Health. I later completed my Doctor of Nursing Practice, specializing as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD in 2023.

I specialize in supporting individuals facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and mood disorders, working primarily with adults and children with a specialization in the veteran’s population. My approach to care is collaborative, person-centered, and holistic. I often use evidence-based therapeutic modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based interventions, and medication management to help clients reach their mental health goals.

I chose this profession because I’ve always been driven to help people in meaningful ways, and I found mental healthcare to be a place where I could make a lasting impact. I find it most rewarding to build trusting relationships with clients and to see the progress they make on their journey toward improved mental wellness.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family, being outdoors, and reading. These activities help me stay balanced and energized to support my clients with compassion and clarity.
