He began his full-fledged medical career as a staff psychiatrist working at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls. He would have two stints working there. Between those, he worked at the Human Service Agency in Watertown, one of South Dakota’s Community Mental Health Centers that provides outpatient services. He was the adult psychiatrist and medical director at HSA. Most recently, Dr. Giebink worked at Keystone Treatment Center in Canton, SD, an inpatient/residential facility. He has treated the full range of common psychiatric conditions, including mood disorders such as bipolar and major depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia. Relationship problems and abuse of alcohol and other substances often play an important role in the mental health difficulties people have. Dr. Giebink has particular interest in helping people with co-occurring disorders, such as substance abuse in patients who have mood and/or anxiety disorders. He provides medication management but understands the importance and effectiveness of other treatment modalities, including individual counseling, group therapy and 12-Step programs, and procedures such as TMS and others. He will recommend these to his patients as he deems appropriate.

Mary Wegner,

MD, Psychiatrist

Dr. Mary “Micki” Wegner is a native of Sioux Falls, having attended Washington High School, Augustana College and medical school at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.  She then went on to a residency in Topeka, KS, at the Karl Menninger School of Psychiatry, known for multimodal treatment of personality and other complex disorders.   It was in Topeka that she discovered her passion for working with treatment teams in community mental health centers, serving a wide range of adult clients including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, substance use disorders, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and co-occurring issues in trauma and personality disorders.

Once she left training, she relocated to northern Arizona for two years then back to Kansas.  There, she headed up medical services in the largest community treatment center for the seriously mentally ill in Kansas.  In that position, she was part of a multidisciplinary team providing case management, therapy, vocational services and a day treatment  program aimed at rehabilitation to each individual’s highest level of functioning.  She also provided psychiatric treatment for clients of a team of therapists working exclusively with survivors of sexual trauma.  It was around this time in her career she became interested in spiritual aspects of healing and the powerful role of the unconscious in our day to day lives.  She trained in hypnosis, EMDR, meditation and reiki as adjuncts to medication treatment.

After 10 years in Kansas City, she headed to southern Missouri and northeast Arkansas, again working out of community mental health centers.  During this time, she expanded her expertise in working with clients with comorbid mental health and substance use issues.

After more than 30 years away from Sioux Falls, she decided to return to her roots and is excited to build a new practice with Midwest Wellness Institute.
